Obama: A Fashionable Failure of a President

Millennials love Barack Obama. He’s a gifted politician – indeed, a once-in-a-lifetime political talent. His charisma puts men like George W. Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney to shame. His affinity for being a “cool” President by chatting with the likes of Ellen DeGeneres while the world burns is matched only by his fondness for golf.

He is well-liked in many circles. But being well-liked is not the same as doing good for the country.

The cold, hard truth is that while Barack Obama is a charming public figure, he is an utter failure of a President.

Not only has he lied repeatedly to the citizens whom he governs, but he also nearly unilaterally caused and continues to cause countries like Russia and China to lose any semblance of respect for the United States on the world stage. The world is now in turmoil, not exclusively due to his decisions, but in large part due to his judgment.

The Iran deal, which Obama surely views as his legacy, is a complete farce and disaster. The fact that the deal was implemented in the first place is catastrophic enough: Ben Rhodes, Obama’s foreign-policy guru, admittedly lied to the public and to Congress in order to push the deal through. And that’s not even the worst of it – Iran, in addition to taking ten U.S. sailors captive and subsequently filming and releasing a propaganda video, has already violated the deal multiple times by testing ballistic missiles. Thankfully, our stylish President responded to U.S. humiliation by doing what he does best in these types of situations: nothing. (Actually, that’s not entirely true; he did do something: He flew in a $400-million ransom to Iran in an unmarked cargo plane, thereby encouraging the world’s largest financier of terrorism to take more Americans hostage. Excellent!)

Regarding respect on the world stage, Obama has none – and this is not without cause. He did not stand up to Putin when Russia annexed Crimea. He has not stood up to China in the South China Sea. And worst of all, he has done remarkably little to weaken and destroy ISIS.

Obama is not the “founder of ISIS,” as Donald Trump claims, but Obama himself fails to recognize the true founder of ISIS: sharia-supremacist Islam. Contrary to popular conservative opinion, Obama did not cause ISIS with his removal of troops from Iraq. But by the same token, Bush didn’t cause ISIS by inserting troops into the Middle East. The cause of ISIS is an inherently-violent ideology that Obama refuses to even name, let alone fight. And blood is on his hands for allowing it to continue to ravage the Muslim world, destroying the lives of thousands of Christians and Muslims wherever it goes.

Back in these United States, division is now rampant. Partisan divide is higher than it’s been in decades. Racial strife is now the norm. And Obama has done nothing but aggravate this partisan and racial division – whether it’s by signing executive orders when Congress “won’t act” or by pandering to the incendiary, statistically-wrong Black Lives Matter movement.

Economically, the national debt is now $19.5 trillion and growing, and the nation has a whopping $103 trillion in unfunded liabilities. Both are cause for alarm, but the President doesn’t seem to care. The unemployment rate is low, but the labor force participation rate is also low – which means there are a lot of Americans who have simply given up looking for work.

The President’s chief legislative accomplishment, Obamacare, is in ruins. Insurance premiums are skyrocketing, not decreasing by $2,500 per family per year, as he promised. But then again, he promised other things regarding Obamacare, and those promises weren’t exactly fulfilled, either (“If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor,” anyone?).

There are plenty other Obama-era catastrophes that are worth remembering: the Bowe Bergdahl swap, the attempted closing of Gitmo, the IRS’s targeting of conservatives, and Benghazi, just to name a few. Of course, the list could go on and on.

Despite being a natural political talent, Obama has failed as a President. The good news, however, is that there are only 132 days until Obama leaves office. But the bad news is . . . that Obama still has 132 days left in office. And those days can’t pass by quickly enough.
